Why Is Elle Wearing a Wig at the End of Legally Blonde

For the character of Elle, Tori Spelling was first approached, and when she refused, Christina Applegate was questioned, who also turned down the role, saying she didn`t just want to be cast in stereotypical and dirty blonde roles. Others were Alicia Silverstone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Katherine Heigl and Charlize Theron, until finally director Robert Luketic pushed for Witherspoon, and the rest is history. When she accuses him of being a bonehead, she is actually wearing a wig, which makes her hair look red rather than blonde. She also suddenly has freckles. While the director wanted Witherspoon for the role of Woods, the studios apparently thought she was too shrew. Witherspoon said, „My manager finally called and said, `You have to meet with the studio head because he`s not going to approve you. He thinks you`re really your Election character and you`re disgusting. And then I was told to dress sexy. You`re probably completely wrong. While you certainly know and love Reese Witherspoon for her role as Elle Woods, who demands that she have blonde hair, the truth is that blonde is not her natural hair color. The famous actress and social activist recently revealed on Instagram that her natural hair color is actually brown by posting a photo from her childhood in which she wore a candy necklace. She then founded the „Blonde Legal Defense Fund” with her new friend Vivian Kensington (almost played by Chloé Sevigny), who had dyed her hair blonde to color it according to the role.

„They were in the quad and handing out brochures.” Elle Wood turned the archetype of the dirty blonde to the side to show that no book should be judged by its cover. As a fashion designer by profession, Wood was not a stupid character. It was perceived as such. At the end of the film, she successfully shows that she can be herself and be a good lawyer at the same time. For a very long time, I had the impression that the 43-year-old actress naturally had blonde hair, but it seems that I am seriously mistaken with this assumption. Recently, Witherspoon revealed to her Instagram followers that her natural hair color is actually brown by posting a photo from her childhood and sharing it with them. The final scene was filmed after the test audience didn`t like the original ending, in which Elle Woods and Vivian formed a „Blonde Legal Defense Club” (with Vivian dyeing her hair blonde, of course). By this time, Witherspoon had already directed the film The Importance of Being Earnest, in which she changed her curls.

Luke Wilson had shaved his head for The Royal Tenenbaums, which meant both needed wigs to at least look like their characters. There was only one problem: Reese was already in England to shoot a new film, The Importance of Being Earnest, and had cut off her character`s long blonde hair after being „damaged by all the hot rollers”. Reese isn`t the only actor wearing a wig in the film`s final scenes: Luke Wilson, who plays his new friend Emmett, also puts on a wig after shaving his head for his role in The Royal Tenenbaums. Studio executives originally wanted either Tori Spelling or Christina Applegate to play the iconic Woods discussions. Applegate turned down the role because she no longer wanted to play „the dirty blonde.” She later called it a „stupid move.” Other actresses considered included Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Alicia Silverstone, Katherine Heigl, Milla Jovovich and Jennifer Love Hewitt. But that ending wasn`t always the plan. „Originally, it ended right after the courthouse trial,” co-author Karen McCullah told EW. „Everyone congratulated Elle, and Emmett came up to her and gave her a big kiss. Then there was a label where it was a year in the future and she and Vivian, who was blonde now, had started the Blonde Legal Defense Fund and they were in the quad and handing out brochures. Warner turned out to be anything but the perfect match for Elle, but for actor Matthew Davis, it was a different story. Everyone is guilty of massive teenage delusions about celebrities, and Davis was just as vulnerable. In his early 20s, Davis admitted in a promotional interview for the film that he had a crush on Witherspoon, who began acting as a teenager since the age of 15. He told MovieLine: „Since I was 15 and watching A Far Off Place, I`ve had the most crush on Reese. At first, I was so silly with her that one day the producers took me aside to see if I was okay. The film`s co-writer, Karen McCullah, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that instead of graduating, she first received a big kiss from her boyfriend Emmett. „Originally, it ended at the courthouse right after the runway,” she said. „Everyone congratulated her, and Emmett came up to her and gave her a big kiss.” Amanda Brown read Elle magazine and wrote letters at home to mock her classmates, especially those she couldn`t relate to.
