Meaning of Happy Legal

This year, many things are different with suspended programs and cancellations, but there are usually school presentations around Law Day and even courtroom excursions. Since we cannot do that this year, I urge you to reach out to the young people in your lives and remind them of our excellent legal system. What is Law Day, you ask? Law Day, celebrated across the country on May 1 each year, is an opportunity to foster a better appreciation of our legal system. Still no bells ringing? Don`t feel bad. If you`re not a lawyer or history buff, you may not know that President Dwight Eisenhower first recognized Law Day in 1958, and since then the president has issued an annual proclamation recognizing the importance of the rule of law. It may not be as famous as the president`s „turkey forgiveness” on Thanksgiving, but to me it has a special meaning. My 5-year-old daughter may not yet know how lucky she is to live in a society governed by a legal system like ours, but I look forward to teaching her. I hope I`ve ignited that spark in you too. And now that I`ve highlighted the importance of this day for every American, I want to renew my sense of wishing each of you a happy Law Day! Finally, for those who can`t quite get it out of their heads, the answer to the pop quiz is – the Sixth Amendment. Share with them what the scales of justice are. Watch a legal drama like „To Kill A Mockingbird” or „12 Angry Men.” Learn more about our Constitution. If you need ideas, the Ohio Center for Law Related Education`s website and/or Facebook page is a wonderful resource.

And then, when we can meet again, I encourage everyone to visit our Ohio Supreme Court. And as you look at the grandeur and majesty of the courtroom, I hope you really feel the immense importance it has for all the lawyers who have set foot in it and will set foot there. Today, I still appreciate good legal fiction. Like many others, I was addicted to the Netflix docuseries „Making a Murderer,” but as an adult, I`m able to compare TV dramas to reality. Serving as a Delaware County District Attorney is a dream come true. The thrill of winning in the courtroom is second to none. Standing up for someone who needs a legal voice, someone who needs me to fight for them, is an honor and a privilege. My journey – from watching a young child in his grandfather`s rocking chair to serving my community in the important role of prosecutor – makes me particularly appreciate Law Day. Indeed, our country`s rich legal history goes back to the principles considered and discussed by our founding fathers, ideals eventually enshrined in our Constitution, our amendments and our Bill of Rights.

For example, the right of an accused to confront his accuser. Can you imagine a judicial system without that right? Wow is all I can say. Fortunately, our founding fathers recognized this hundreds of years ago. And now, when I see my own daughter in this little wooden rocking chair, I wonder what will become of her. As she sits there, cradling her dolls to sleep or watching TV herself, I am so grateful to raise my family in a country where there is a fair and equitable legal system, a long history of checks and balances for the benefit of all. Pop Quiz: Can you determine in which constitutional amendment this right is included (answer below)? If not, it`s fair to say you`re not alone, and that`s exactly why Law Day is so important. It is an opportunity to re-educate ourselves so that we understand the crucial role that the rule of law plays in our lives. We are happy that you share our content on social media.

Here`s another: What about the right to be free from improper search and seizure? Require the government to obtain arrest warrants based on probable reasons and evidence? to be able to challenge searches and seizures in court? This is another example of brilliant thinking by our founding fathers enshrined in the Fourth Amendment (can you guess?). The exercise of a right; the possession and realization of a right or privilege. Comfort, comfort, contentment, ease, happiness, pleasure and contentment. This includes the economic use, interest and purpose for which the property may be used, and implies the right to profits and income derived therefrom. It`s not uncommon to hear feelings like „Happy Birthday – Happy Holidays – or even Happy Friday,” but I have another one for you. Perhaps less well known, but still important, today happens to be Law Day, so I`d like to wish you all a very happy „Law Day.” The constitutional right of individuals to pursue their „happiness” means the right to engage in any lawful enterprise or purpose that does not conflict with the equal rights of others who may increase their wealth or develop their abilities to give them their greatest pleasure.
