We provide free legal aid to residents of Los Angeles County. We have partnered with Bet Tzedek Legal Services to provide city-wide legal services to help seniors resolve a variety of legal issues, including: NLSLA provides free legal aid to more than 100,000 individuals and families in Los Angeles County each year. Our lawyers specialize in areas of law that disproportionately impact people living in poverty, including affordable housing and eviction, access to public services, support for survivors of domestic violence and their children, access to health and labor and consumer rights, employment and training. If you need legal support and/or resources, please make an appointment directly with Bet Tzedek Legal Services by: Low-income communities are always the hardest hit by a disaster, whether it`s a devastating wildfire or a global health emergency. The NLSLA provides disaster-related legal services that address issues related to FEMA, unemployment and other essential services, health insurance, and housing issues. Many municipalities have „dispute resolution” programs. These programs try to „mediate” or resolve issues instead of going to court, so you may not need a lawyer. The Los Angeles Superior Court offers civil settlement programs and a pro bono probate settlement program for matters involving estates, trusts, estates, guardianships, and conservatories.

The NLSLA works to expand access to health care and provides support to people who are struggling to obtain coverage and resolve health plan issues. The organization also works with physicians in community clinics and hospitals to identify and resolve legal issues that impact individual and community health. LA Law Library participates in the Los Angeles Incubator Consortium (LAIC), a program that supports and helps lawyers start their own solo practice so they can meet the legal needs of the community at an affordable cost. ALIC lawyers represent clients of modest means in a variety of practice areas such as immigration, family, criminal, housing, small business, employment, civil law, consumers and estates. Self-help resource centres are available in many courts to provide free legal aid to litigants who do not have a lawyer. For some types of cases, they will give you legal information, instructions on how to fill out court forms, direct you to other legal resources, and explain the court rules and process. Legal aid organizations are not-for-profit organizations that provide free legal services to people whose income is below a certain income. Before you can get help from a legal aid agency, you usually have to be eligible for help based on your income. The State Bar Association funds legal aid organizations throughout the state that provide legal services to low- and middle-income Californians. These organizations focus on your issues, from custody and family law to disability rights and veterans` benefits. Limited representation is when you and a lawyer agree that the lawyer will handle some parts of your case and you will handle others. This differs from more traditional solicitor-client agreements, where a lawyer is hired to provide legal services on all aspects of a case from start to finish. The NLSLA operates legal access self-help centers in Los Angeles County courthouses, where litigants in need of domestic violence protection can resolve custody disputes, file for divorce and stop eviction, access legal advice, and refer legal services. Clients helped exercise their right to housing in 2021 Through the on-the-ground knowledge we gain by addressing our clients` legal issues, we help develop and implement policies that address key structural economic and social injustices at the regional and state levels.
